In view of Tamil Nadu's importance in the powerloom sector, the Government of India decided to study the industry in a comprehensive manner in order to understand the issues, which would enable improvement of strategy for modernisation. Accordingly, the Textiles Committee has conducted the study on a sample basis to assess the status of the decentralised powerloom sector in Tamil Nadu.
The analytical report provides valuable information depicting the dispersal and structure of the industry, its employment, investment capabilities, structural pattern, technology level, production and production pattern, capacity utilisation, market related issues and the problems and issues. Micro level data of each of these areas of the industry have been provided in this report, which is not available from any other source. Besides, focus areas for strategy formulation right from sourcing of raw material to the marketing have been discussed in detail.
