Enhancing Sustainability & Circularity in Textiles – Eliciting Ideas for Social Media Campaign

Textiles Committee (TC), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is implementing a programme on “Enhancing Sustainability & Circularity in Textiles” in colloboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for the benefit of the entire Textile Value Chain (TVC) of the country. The objectives of the programme is to minimize the negative environmental impacts of the Indian textile industry by promoting sustainable practices and mainstream knowledge of circular production best practices in the textile and apparel sector.

Under this programme, the TC in collaboration with UNEP will inter-alia evolve campaign collaterals and campaign strategy for promotion of sustainability and circularity in textiles. Such campaign collaterals will then be used through extensive social media campaign to reach out to all the targeted audience which, for the purpose of this campaign are ‘Youth’ within age bracket of 18 to 27 and 27 to 45 (Gen Y/ Millennials) residing in metro and urban locales.

Since the campaign would involve bringing about behavioural change in “Youth” to wean them away from fast fashion in favour of more sustainable, environmental and resource friendly behaviour through positive messaging, the TC is looking towards actual participation of young practitioners and students of fashion education to evolve such an apt campaign for the intended audience.
