National Workshop on “IPR protection of unique textiles and handicrafts through Geographical Indication (GI) and Post GI initiatives"

The Ministry of Textiles has tasked Textiles Committee to organize a one and half day National Workshop themed “IPR protection of unique textiles and handicrafts through Geographical Indication (GI) and Post GI initiatives”. The workshop will be organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 5th and 6th May 2017. The workshop will deliberate on five important issues relating to GI like (i) Legal framework and registration process; (ii) Promotion and Marketing of GI registered products; (iii) Quality assurance; (iv) Raising awareness and (v) strengthening enforcement and activation of producer groups to take the benefit of GI registration.

Eminent national and international experts in the area will participate and deliberate on these issues.  Around 500 participants comprising of GI registered proprietors, national awardees, exporters, researchers, Trade & Industry Associations and senior officers of state and central government authorities will participate in this workshop.

Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of India has kindly agreed to grace the occasion as Chief Guest of the Workshop.
