One of the main functioning of Laboratories is Research & Development in the area of textiles. The Mumbai Laboratory along with CTRL (Now CIRCOT) carried out an R&D on Flame retardant textile for Ministry of Defence.  In this process, a new patented method of Phosporization of Cotton was developed.  Many of officials of laboratory have worked on R&D projects which lead to their gaining higher qualifications like M. REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) chemical policy has come into with effect from the 1st June, 2007.   Our Laboratories has developed test facility for testing of more than 50 Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) under REACH.
